Race Recap

Its been sometime since I have updated the blog and Vicki has been doing such a great job that I forget to update it.

The race (see Vicki's last blog) was a 5K race around Lake Harriet. We got there just in time for the start. Since this was my first race with a double running stroller, I decided to play it safe and start in the back half of the pack. Well, the first mile was painful since I was trying to pass runners by zig zagging a 3 foot wide stroller around people without running over their feet. Our first mile must have been around 9 minutes (or more). The second mile seemed to flow better and we were kicking butt on the downhills. Gravity was working in our favor and it was difficult to hold back the stroller. Going uphill, I just pushed on the stroller and kept kicking. There was only one fight during the race when Riley kept putting his feet on Brooke's side of the stroller. I was able to open up a package of fruit snacks and give them to Brooke while I was running. We stopped only once when Brooke was sliding out of her seat.

As we hit the three mile mark (0.1 mile left), we picked up the kick and passed a couple younger runners before the finish. They were shocked to see a double stroller pass them. We finished with a clock time of 25:00 minutes and a real time of 23:55 (based on my watch since it took 1 minute to get to the start line).

Based on our clock time: We finished #69 overall out of 470 participants. #22 out of #68 for age group. If the race kept track of real time, my guess is that we would be in the top 50 overall. I am looking forward to the next race with the kids. My next race is the Get In Gear 10K in Minnepolis this Saturday.
